With an unparalleled haberdashery section and a historically great buying department who trek all over the world to bring back lovely wares, Liberty rightly considers itself the ‘home of the artistic shopper’. Indeed, its cavernous halls and higgledy-piggledy structure are designed to make you feel like you’re shopping in some lucky bugger’s stately home. And part of its latest campaign sees a very special pop-up exhibition from Spanish fashion house and leather artisan Loewe in their mysterious sounding ‘disappearing showcase’.
The Loewe: This is Home exhibition will be in the grand-dame of department stores until May 21, displaying a beautiful range of products, including handmade Spanish ceramics, taurillon lampshades and a knitted wool collection of life-size male figures complete with woolly. erm, willies. In the words of London boy and Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson (of JW Anderson fame): ‘I like the idea that fashion can explode into the household’. Amen to that.
And because Loewe began life as a cooperative of leather artisans, they’ll be in residence hosting a couple of uber-lux leather workshops making mouse charms on the shop floor.
The Loewe workshops are on Fri May 12 and Sat May 13. Liberty, Regent St, W1B 5AH. Tube: Oxford Circus.
