Kentish Town is getting a new cinema

After two years of squabbling, and a bit of squatting, it looks like Kentish Town is really going to get its own cinema this autumn - 40 years since the last cinema closed.

Uplift Property will be converting the Grade II listed Georgian building into a 70-seat cinema, café and bar, with the expected luxury apartments above. The good news is they won’t be touching those grand, tall windows that always added a bit of glam to Kentish Town Road. It’s been a school hall, a polytechnic (with separate entrance for women, naturally) but it’s best known as ‘the old Pizza Express building’.

The hoardings have been up for months but it hasn’t been straightforward journey, licensing and planning wrangles meant it often looked like cinema plans were out of the picture. We don’t yet know a name, the first film or what brand of popcorn will be sold but the big screen is finally coming to Kentish and we'll keep you posted when we find out more.
