While bleary-eyed Westfield shoppers were busy ticking off their Christmas shopping lists, we spent yesterday evening in a subterranean grotto, drinking botanical cocktails while being serenaded by hunky mermen at Bompas & Parr’s ‘Beyond the Waterfall’ experience.
Check out the photos below:
The night kicked off with us clambering into a tiny wooden boat and paddling all of 20 metres to emerge unscathed beyond the waterfall (thankfully you get a brolly AND a poncho).
Be nice to this man – after you admire the jellyfish and pocket some gem stones, he'll give you your first drink of the evening: a mixture of gunpowder rum, spiced port, spiced grenadine and gingerbread absinthe – like Christmas in a bottle.
A dark passage leads to your sea-themed grotto where you get to exchange seashells for cocktails.
Meet Ruby: your fabulous, feathery-lashed host, and listen out for a wonderfully camp rendition of Under The Sea later on in the evening...
You might even get to sponge down one of the mermen mixologists...
We recommend testing your sea legs on the Shipwreck Sour, a scrummy mixture of cider brandy, Coral Calvados, creme de peche, lemon, egg white and bitters. See a video of the night below.
Beyond the Waterfall at The Village, Westfield, Shepherd’s Bush runs until Dec 23. Tickets are £15, plus booking fees for a 60-minute slot and two cocktails. Walk-in spaces are available.
