Last Monday, a security guard in Sainsbury's on Hackney Road allegedly told a shopper that holding hands with his boyfriend was 'inappropriate' and so outraged Londoners organised a protest kiss-in. Over 200 people turned up on Saturday evening for the kissathon, smooching, waving freedom flags and dancing in the aisles of the offending store. It was quite the party.

Sainsbury's provided biscuits and water for the protesters and a spokesperson for the supermarket said: 'It's been a really great event and an important opportunity for the community to show their support. We do our best to make sure everyone feels welcome in our stores but occasionally we make mistakes. We are working hard to make sure lessons are learnt.'
