The weather has turned truly frosty this week, but not everyone is curled up under the duvet with a hot chocolate in hand and the heating on full whack. The number of people sleeping rough in England has doubled since 2010, but there is a way you can put a roof over someone's head this winter – if you can brave the chilly waters.

Homeless charity Crisis is inviting Londoners to take the plunge at Brockwell Lido on December 10 – though be fully prepared to emerge with a full set of goose bumps and a pair of chattering teeth. Your donation will ensure a homeless person has access to Crisis’ health and wellbeing, education, employment and housing services for the coming year.

If you can't make the December dip, there's another in January at Tooting Bec, the country's largest fresh water lido.

Register for a swim or for the relay here.

The Midwinter Swim takes place on Sat Dec 10 at Brockwell Lido, Brockwell ParkSE24 0PA.
