Help save brilliant community bike shop Brixton Cycles

The 32-year-old Brixton Cycles looks likely to become the latest casualty of rising rents in Brixton. The independent bike shop has been servicing and selling bikes since the 1980s and is owned by the workers, many of whom have worked there for over 20 years.

Since 2001, the shop's location next to Stockwell Skatepark (aka Brixton Beach) has made it a perfect meeting place for people in the community, but their 15-year lease is due to end in 2016 and the landlord is converting the building into luxury flats, because London is apparently short of these.

If they stay their rent will triple, which is out of the question, so they’ve found a new premises nearby and to make the move they need some support. They have estimated the cost of moving and renovating a new space will be around £150,000 and they are CrowdFunding to help keep the dream alive. In return for your contributions, you will be rewarded with not only their love, but you can have your name on the wall of their new shop, receive special-edition swag, an invitation to the launch party, one-on-one bike maintenance lessons and lots more.

Support them at crowdfunder.co.uk/save-brixton-cycles and follow their plight with #savebrixtoncycles.
