'When is London not a restaurant festival?' you may ask, vaguely. We hear you – Londoners don't need an excuse to eat out. But we do want one. For the month of October the London Restaurant Festival sees some of the city's best venues – Hawksmoor, Hakkasan, L'Autre Pied and loads more – put on special offers so that the hungry can try them out for cheaper than usual. There are also restaurant-hopping tours available, which is like a pub crawl but with food instead of pints. Guests choose their tour and buy a 'passport' which entitles them to a small plate and a drink (usually alcoholic, a few non-alcoholic) in each of the six restaurants on their chosen route. The Carnaby tour, for instance, is £55 per person and includes Pitt Cue Co., Shoryu Ramen, Pizza Pilgrims, Antidote, Rosa's Thai and Señor Ceviche, whose grilled chicken skewer and quinoa soltero salad is pictured.

London Restaurant Festival runs until October 31.
