Move over, Kentucky, because London-fried chicken is coming to town. At least, that's what Soho's new fried chicken venture Billy and the Chicks promises. And if you never really got into the whole chicken and waffles thing, you'll be pleased to know it's not on the menu here. They're keeping it simple with chicken burgers, chicken pieces, wings and a whole lot of sides, including mac 'n' cheese, beans, chips and gravy by the bucket load. Plus, they're using local suppliers including Bread Ahead, Neal's Yard Dairy, Walter Rose & Son and Spice Mountain. It opens today (December 4), and they're offering 50 percent off all food until this Sunday (December 6). Bin off that limp salad for lunch and grab their takeaway special meal deal – chicken, chips and a drink – which is normally a fiver but will only set you back a mere £2.50 during the soft launch. Bird is definitely the word.

27–28 St Anne's Court, Soho, W1F 0BW.

Thought fried chicken was all the same? Here are four different varieties you can get in London.

And what's the deal with London's obsession with fried chicken?
