After the recent run of sunny weather, June is looking good. There’s a solid list of craft beer events lined up around London to enhance your summer itinerary, so why not make this the month you discover a new brewery? Tap takeovers are a perfect way to sample a range of beers, while getting to meet the people behind them.
Barrel Kitchen at UBREW
For this month’s wildcard event, this food and beer concept will be showcasing the beers from Driptych Brew Co alongside some delicious food from Club Lola. Think supper club meets tap takeover, where a six-course menu will be perfectly paired with beers that have been meticulously chosen to complement and enhance each dish. The whole event will be in a working open brewery – where members use professional kit to make their home-brewing dreams become a reality. UBREW is also the home of Driptych and offers a friendly environment for this inaugural event (with more promised down the line). UBREW, 29 Old Jamaica Business Estate, 24 Old Jamaica Rd, SE16 4AW. Jun 14, 7-11pm.
To Øl at BrewDog Shepherd’s Bush
Danish brewery To Øl is globally revered for making inventive beers. It is what’s referred to as a gypsy brewery, or a brewery that doesn’t brew in a fixed location. It travels around instead, relying on other breweries’ facilities. But that doesn’t affect their ability to turn out a number of excellent beers – in fact, you’ll be able to try no less than 20 of these at BrewDog in Shepherd’s Bush as part of this tap takeover. A selection of bottles and cans will also be available to take home. The full tap list will be revealed soon, but you can count on this being a popular event. BrewDog Shepherd’s Bush, 15-19 Goldhawk Road, W12 8QQ. June 22, 6pm-8pm.
Summer Beer Night at Leyton Orient Supporters’ Club
If you’re into cask beer, this event is for you. Head down to Leyton Orients Supporters’ Club to find 40ft Brewery and Solvay Society on the hand-pulls. Exclusive beers will be available on the evening from both breweries and the Supporters’ Club is open to all; it’s a London-based haven for real-ale fans, consistently picking up awards from CAMRA. It’ll be a friendly environment to enjoy some beer in east London, whether or not you’re following the Os recent relegation saga (although it’s probably best to not mention that). Leyton Orient Supporters’ Club, Brisbane Rd, E10 5NF. June 23, 5pm-11pm.
Cloudwater at the Tate Modern
On the last Thursday of every month, the Tate Modern celebrates the best of British brewing in their swanky terrace bar. This month, the phenomenal Cloudwater takes the helm, Manchester’s wunderkind brewery that has consistently impressed beer drinkers since 2015. In February 2017, it was the first UK brewery to reach one of Ratebeer.com’s top ten breweries in the world – coming fifth. See what the fuss is about at the Tate Modern, meet the Cloudwater team and admire artwork from seven artists who have appeared on their beer mats and labels. There will also be special prices for beer flights on the night. Tate Modern Bar, Bankside, SE1 9TG. 29 June, 6.30pm-10.30pm.
Good beer at Field Day? It’s true – but in case you need more incentive to grab some last-minute tickets, check out this year’s line-up.
