Picture the scene:  you own a restaurant. It’s January. You have fewer customers than North Korea does tourists. What do you do? Why, you slash your prices to offer insanely cheap deals, thus meaning that January isn’t the most miserable month for eating; it’s actually the most brilliant! And what do you do if you’re one of said potential customers? Why, you read our below list of the best January restaurant discounts, of course…

1. Free pintxos at Brindisa

Brindisa – amazing purveyors of imported Spanish deliciousness – may have a male cow for their logo, but there’s absolutely no bull about this January deal. Every Monday during Jan, diners at their Brixton or Borough Market outposts get a free pintxo (a little snack) with their first drink between 5pm and 7pm.

2. Loads of half-price deals

The only thing that most people get 50 percent off during January? Their fat arse (if they stick to the diet, that is). Not if you’re a clever deal hunter, though, as shedloads of places are offering half-price meals. Our faves? Piquet, whose stunning French-inflected cuisine is so good we gave it five stars, are offering half-price sharing platters if – bizarrely – you say the words ‘Polly Hawkins’ to your server. Also, awesome Dalston-based Carribbean joint Rudie’s is doing 50 percent off their astonishing jerk chicken on Mondays throughout January. Which, frankly, will encourage you to eat enough to give you another 50 percent on your fat arse. But at these prices, who cares?

3. Brilliant BOGOFs

Gordon Ramsay is notorious for loving to give people one. Erm, a free meal, that is. Or at least he is throughout January, when booking online gets you access to a set menu that lets your dining partner eat for nothing.

4. BYO booze cocktails

Been given weird booze you didn’t want for Xmas? Then you should take it to the swanky Donovan Bar in Mayfair’s Brown’s Hotel, where they’ll turn it into a delicious cocktail for only £5, Sun-Weds for the whole of Jan (5pm onwards). It’s not the first time a bar’s done BYO cocktails, but it’s definitely the cheapest we’ve ever heard of.

5. Bottomless booze brilliance

Full disclosure: this is one of our own deals. But boy, is it good. Swanky Japanese restaurant Roka is offering a main course, a dessert and ten (ten!) starters for £30. Oh, and there’s also unlimited wine throughout your starter and main. Remember how we said at the start that January was the most brilliant month for eating? Yeah, now you see why.
