Limoncello – that sweet-sharp lemon digestif beloved of suburban Italian restaurants – is often derided as cloying holiday hooch. That’s unfair, mind. Decent limoncello is delectable stuff, and Pococello – the limoncello brand created by the boys behind Pizza Pilgrims and the Chase Distillery, is as a good as you’re gonna get on our windswept shores.
The people behind Pococello are so keen to prove this, they’re setting out in a converted Piaggio Ape – dubbed Ludo – on a summer tour of the capital, cupping up cocktails as they go. It all kicks off this Thursday June 8 at The Duke of Sussex near Waterloo station, before shifting to The Table Café in Southwark the next day. There, they’ll be hosting a ‘Hogocello’ terrace, where you’ll be able to slosh down a Pococello twist on the stalwart negroni or a signature Poco-tonic, while snaffling the hog roast.
After that, you’ll be able to find Ludo at the following spots this summer:
Sunday June 18 The Lillie Langtry, 19 Lillie Rd, SW6 1UE.
Monday June 19 The Colton Arms, 187 Greyhound Rd, W14 9SD.
Thursday June 29-Saturday July 1 Albion pubs across London including 10 Thornhill Rd, N1 1HW; 2-3 New Bridge St, EC4V 6AA; 94 Goldsmiths Row, E2 8QY; 121 Hammersmith Rd, W14 0QL.
