It is the four hundredth anniversary of Shakespeare’s death – aka Shakespeare400 – and the surest sign yet that The Bard remains deathlessly contemporary is a just-announced revival of cult immersive, er, disco experience ‘The Donkey Show’, just announced to run at Proud Camden this summer.

From the magnificently named Randy Weiner – producer of Punchdrunk’s New York smash ‘Sleep No More’  and co-creator of legendary cabaret venue The Box – and heavyweight US director Diane Paulus, the cult ‘Donkey Show’ ran for seven years in the Big Apple, and was last seen in London in a different version 15 years ago.

Basically it’s a very naughty, very fab, very different version of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ that includes ‘acrobats, disco divas, aerial artists and fire breathers’ plus numerous classic disco bangers including ‘I Will Survive’, ‘You Sexy Thing’ et al. It is almost certainly more important that you like a) fun and b) disco than c) have an in depth knowledge of the play. Plus! You can dance.

Proud Camden, Jun 9-Aug 21. Find out more at DonkeyShowLondon.com.
