So, what’s for dinner? If you live in Stoke Newington, it might just be a little something whipped up by your neighbour. The DishNextDoor website lets you buy home-cooked meals from your local community, made by people who are pretty great in the kitchen.
The startup, which launched last month, works like ordering a local takeaway except you get to learn more about the chefs making your meal – like Suzi, who serves up portions of five-star galettes (according to her recent customers) and can’t live without her crepe machine. Or Dilek, who won the Turkish version of Masterchef and is the person to go to if you’re in the mood for Mediterranean.
Or if you'd rather take a shot at impressing the 'hood with your culinary skills, while making a bit of cash on the side, all you have to do is create a listing, eBay-style, with pics of your kitchen and dishes, and a description of what you’re cooking. The startup will also make sure you get food hygiene training – very important – and of course, that your food tastes good enough to sell.
DishNextDoor is currently only available for those who live in Stokey, but the good news is there's plans for it to be rolled out to more postcodes in north and east London early in the New Year. In the meantime they're keen to recruit new cooks in N16 – so local masterchefs, consider this your time to shine.
