How things change. A few years back, all Daniel Radcliffe had to worry about was smuggling baby dragons out of Hogwarts under his invisibility cloak. Now he's hauling 55 pounds of cocaine across the US border in a private plane, and no spell is going to save him if the Drug Enforcement Agency catch up with him.
Radcliffe has signed on to play the lead in American indie 'Beast of Burden', the English-language debut of Swedish director Jesper Ganslandt, whose shocking thriller 'The Ape' made a minor festival splash back in 2009. The new movie follows a pilot whose career as a drug runner is coming to an end – he's sick of taking risks and lying to his wife. But first he has to take one last shipment. The film follows him through one day as he tangles with drug cartels, law enforcement and engine trouble. Let's hope he's not the get-high-on-his-own-supply kind of drug smuggler, because frankly Radcliffe seems highly-strung enough already.
Look for 'Beast of Burden' in cinemas next year, and in the meantime keep an eye on Time Out Film for all the latest film news and reviews.
