The Museum of London is relocating to a new home in West Smithfield, and it's getting a brand new look, too. The museum has been running a competition to find an architect to design the new building, and after the shortlist was announced in June, they've now decided on a winner.
The winning design was the work of architects Stanton Williams and Asif Khan, who've been chosen based on their 'innovative thinking', a 'sensitivity to the heritage of the location' and a 'keen awareness of the practicalities of delivering a really functional museum'.
The plans include a huge dome in the entrance, spiral escalators and a sunken garden. Now that they've settled on a design, the museum will submit a planning application for the West Smithfield site to the City of London Corporation in 2018. If all goes to plan, they hope to open the doors to the shiny new museum in 2022.
