Celebrate 200 years of Brixton Windmill by watching 'Moulin Rouge'

Brixton Windmill is 200 years old – yep, Brixton has a real windmill, not just the cult, and slightly grotty, gig venue with the dogs on its roof opposite. To celebrate, there will be an open-air film night in the gardens on Saturday June 4. The film of choice is 2001's 'Moulin Rouge!', obviously. We think they're digging the windmill location, rather than the poet/prostitute love story...

Moviegoers are positively encouraged to dress the part, and channel their inner Nicole Kidman or Ewan McGregor, by donning courtesan costumerie and outfits inspired by bohemian Paris (with prizes on offer for the best costume). And although it probs won't go with your 1900s concubine get-up, bring something to sit on – and a picnic, if you fancy it.

For those more concerned with Brixton's Windmill (that's why we're invited), the evening's entertainment also includes a specially-produced short film about the history of the windmill.

And maybe get changed before heading to Hootenanny for post-film drinks...

No ticket needed, but get there early to bag a space, info at freefilmfestivals.org or brixtonwindmill.org.uk.
