London motorists, look away now. Drivers in the capital pay more than double for their car insurance compared to the rest of the country. The average premium is a whopping £1,460, twice the £714 average elsewhere, according to a report by comparethemarket.com.
Head of motor insurance at the price comparison website Dan Bass said the cost of motor insurance is a 'postcode lottery'. He added: 'Motorists in cities such as London can now expect to pay over double for insurance compared with some other parts of the country, as claims are more likely to be made in urban areas where there is a greater risk of a collision, or of car crimes such as vehicle theft.'
They might cost a load of cash to insure, but the research showed that Londoners boast the fanciest whips in the UK, with the average vehicle valued at £10,323.
On the plus side, if you can afford a car (and the hefty insurance price tag), you won't have to worry about the impending tube strike.
