With Damon Albarn busy reactivating Gorillaz, it’s a fallow period for Blur. So we’re willing to believe a bit of hot political gossip that’s surfaced from Heather Stewart, The Guardian’s political editor: Dave Rowntree, the band’s drummer, could be standing for election as a Labour MP.

This isn’t far-fetched, by the way: Dave ran as Labour’s candidate in the Cities of London and Westminster constituency in the 2010 general election, but lost by around 11,000 votes. Lewisham West and Penge, on the other hand, is a fairly safe Labour seat – so if the rumours are true, there’s a decent chance of Dave swapping backbeats for the backbenches. Hopefully he’ll still find time for the odd reunion.

Here’s how to register to vote in the general election.
