Big Ben's bong is running six seconds slow

There are some things you can always rely on in London – pints will be overpriced, people will avoid eye contact on the tube and tourists will never tire of taking selfies in Trafalgar Square. But you know what you can't rely on? The timekeeping skills of Big Ben. Apparently the Great Clock's ubiquitous bongs are running up to six seconds behind and people are pretty ticked off about it. Well, mainly the BBC, which broadcasts the bongs live on Radio 4 and has been battling with the out-of-sync clock for the last two weeks. Clocksmith Ian Westworth said that the clock does 'have a little fit every now and then', which doesn't sound too healthy. But let's cut the old clock some slack – at 156 years old, maybe it just needed a change of pace.
