Are tacos set to (finally!) take over London?

A good taco can be hard to come by in London, but we have a feeling our luck’s about to change, with a Mexican wave of taquerias cropping up across the city.

Breddos Taqueria

Street food kings Breddos were already on our list of top tacos in London, but we’re thrilled to see they’re bringing their modern twist on the taco to their first permanent restaurant in Clerkenwell. They mean business too – Breddos Taqueria will feature a volcanic stone mill and tortilla machine imported from Mexico.

Killer Tomato

Another street food stall gone perm, Killer Tomato has already opened and we’re excited to check it out soon. The Shepherd’s Bush taco and burrito joint has a wicked-looking bottomless brunch offering and some interesting takes on tacos on the menu. Two words: cheeseburger tacos. Two more words: GET IN.

Corazón

Soho is getting a ten-taco menu to get excited about. The founder of Corazón (which means heart in Spanish) hails from Texas and has travelled through Mexico, so we reckon she knows a thing or two. Alongside tacos filled with traditional carnitas you’ll find tepache, a lightly alcoholic fermented pineapple drink. Be still, our beating hearts.

El Pastor

We’re happier than a tequila worm about El Pastor, set to launch in Borough this November. The Hart Brothers – the team behind our No 1 restaurant in London, Barrafina – are bringing El Pastor to life, with a focus on tacos alongside other Mexican street food faves. They’ll even have a ‘tortilla factory’ on the mezzanine floor. Hola!

Temper

We’ve been watching Neil Rankin’s (of Pitt Cue Co and Smokehouse fame) Instagram feed with glee while he develops ideas for barbecue joint Temper, coming to Soho in November. It may not be like the other Mexican-styled taquerias we’ve just mentioned, but it’s going to have a seven-seater taco bar upstairs with modern interpretations like prawn toast tacos and swiss double mushroom tacos. Lookin' good.
