Like your art full-throttle? Then put the pedal to the metal at the world’s first artist-designed dodgems arena.

‘Drive Dead Slow: Dodgems of Your Mind’ sees a group of artists transform a disused fire station in Bankside into an urban fairground where you can go wild in bespoke bumper cars while light and sound installations mimic your moves.

In ‘Wacky Races’ style you’ll be matched to one of their customised 1960s supercars. Each is personalised with unique characteristics and designed to interact differently with each driver, using a physiological test which determines your mood.

The installation is part of Merge Festival (May 12-June 4), which is bringing art and theatre to SE1 including a ‘Slapstick Sports Day’ in Borough Market and an ‘Alice in Wonderland’-themed pop-up opera. The maverick dodgems will be the headline event, so keep your mood in check and prepare for an artfully bumpy ride.
