Keepin’ it real, The Griffin looks just like a traditional old blokes boozer because that’s what it was. The old blokes have left – unless you count ex-clubbers – but it has a noticeably relaxed atmosphere, without the trucks trundling by or superabundance of Suits that afflict many other Shoho haunts. The building is Grade 2-listed and its interior will be restored and improved, but the welcoming atmosphere is here to stay, with Cymon Eckel (Boy’s Own, Riki Tik, Vapour) at the helm and a host of top jocks at weekends. Plans for block parties in the neighbouring car-park on August Sundays sound promising! On Saturday Memphis Industries get twisted!
