It’s funny, because from outside this looks like exactly the kind of old-school corner pub that would balk at even playing music over the stereo. Yet the King’s Head is a right royal contradiction: while the place is as pleasingly no-nonsense as its exterior suggests, it’s also beloved for its regular karaoke nights. They frequently show footie and boxing and there’s a large, wooden decking-clad beer garden out back. When you’re not being serenaded by regulars, the pub, which opened in the mid-19th Century, is a true timewarp escape from the frenetic energy that buzzes around Finsbury Park.

In addition to the karaoke, the King’s Head hosts quiz nights, with prize money having been known to reach into the hundreds. There’s also bingo and live music. Could they do any more?
Try your luck
The answer to our last question is… yes. While there’s no menu, the owners have been known to lay on free Irish stew and sarnies – get in at the right time and you can eat like a king.
