This new bar and kitchen is located within an unfurled hosepipe of The Monument to the Great Fire of London – or simply Monument, to most. The decor here, like the name, pays anachronistic homage to the area's incendiary past, with hydrant lighting, fire engine-red beer taps, fire-bucket lampshades and a fire-hose handrail.
The menu looks like it could be a draw. Dishes include buttermilk fried chicken with a kohlrabi and apple slaw and romesco, seared onglet with watercress and scotch bonnet butter, and salt cod scotch egg with a squid ink aioli. Desserts look more traditional – think sticky toffee pudding, or a chocolate brownie sundae.
The beer selection is strong, and not limited to the brewery's options. Brewdog, Kernel, Beavertown, Camden Town and Dark Star all feature, alongside five permanent draught options and a few on rotation. A short wine list and some cocktails are also available.
