Hidden away in a quiet residential area of Fulham, the corner site now called The Rose has seen a few name-changes over the years, including the Legless Ladder and, after that, the Fulham Tup.
The Rose feels comfortably more like a pub with food than one of this area’s fancier gastropubs – it’s relaxed enough to provide equally for both the diner and the casual drinker. There's a bar menu with nibbles and small plates, and quite an extensive menu for eating at table. Expect straightforward modern-style cooking and a dessert list focusing on comfort food. There's an emphasis on roasts at Sunday lunchtime, and the main menu changes every month. The drinks lists - beer, wine and cocktails - are concise but cater for all tastes.
The pub is elegant and roomy, with muted walls plenty of very comfortable seating. But if you're there in fine weather, try and bag a table in the beautiful enclosed garden out back.
