A sleek bar at The Royal Horseguards hotel, on Whitehall Court. There's more than a hint of the gentlemen's club about it but the thick red velvet, the heavy woods and the armchairs are all under a cool, contemporary skylight replete with dangling filaments.
The cocktails offer a nod to the hotel's illustrious previous guests. Expect, then, the George Bernard Shaw, the Lord Kitchener, the Winston Churchill and the William Gladstone. There's also a new cocktail each month, with examples including the basil crush - a mix of Cognac, Lillet Blanc, basil leaves, raspberries, brown sugar, vanilla and lime.
And if you're hungry? Tasting plates are available from the bar.
