Time Out says

Please note, Communion Bar is now closed. Time Out Eating & Drinking editors, May 2016.

There’s a delicious irony in putting an ecclesiastically themed cocktail bar in a basement – it’s somehow far cheekier than a Satanic saloon in a loft, surely its polar opposite. Communion doesn’t deploy the aesthetic lightly, either – between glowing portraits of Christ and tots of sacramental wine and communion wafers that serve as table dressing, there’s enough sacrilegious styling here to earn an eternity of damnation. For non-believers, however, this is cocktail heaven. Like at any good church, the local community is at the heart of the operation. Try the Likkel Rascal (rum, sorrel, pineapple, nutmeg, sugarcane) for an intensely spicy, Caribbean influenced pick-me-up, or, if you’re feeling brave, the Grass Arena, a blend of Special Brew, whisky and Buckfast tonic wine. It burns like hell, but comes with a good story.
