Time Out says

With a total capacity of 1400, this massive taproom and community events space off Blackhorse Lane is the largest beer hall in London. It hosts a huge variety of events, from weekly sports screenings and pub quizzes to beer festivals and wine tastings, live comedy, vintage fairs and craft workshops. Food-wise, it offers a large menu of pub classics including sourdough pizzas, burgers and a kid’s menu, with roasts on Sundays, while drinks come in the form of seven house brews, a variety of guest beers and classic cocktails. There’s always plenty of seasonal fun on offer here, including a summertime beach pop-up and curling lanes in the winter, and it’s got a regular programme of sprog-friendly events, including soft play, bouncy castle sessions and singalong concerts. Basically, if you’re bored in Walthamstow, go here!

What’s on

New Year’s Eve Party at Big Penny Social

What were you doing as the clock struck midnight on December 31 1988? Can’t remember or (god forbid) too young to remember? The Big Penny Social is giving you the chance to relive it with its evening of tunes from the era. Expect a DJ set from Soul II Soul legend Jazzie B, a Whitney Houston tribute act with a live band, curling lanes, a music quiz and a Bullseye fancy dress darts competition. As usual, there’ll be plenty of Big Penny brews being poured, with the party going until 2am. Sounds like a banging way to say goodbye to the last 12 months.

World Darts Championship Final at Big Penny Social

If you’re one of the many unsuspecting pub-goers who got swept up by Luke Littler-fuelled darts mania last winter, this epic World Championship Final screening is for you. Walthamstow’s 14,000-capacity beer hall Big Penny Social is promising the electric atmosphere and raucous fun of Alexandra Palace without the hefty ticket prices at this free screening of the final on January 3. We’ll be rooting for the kebab-loving teenage sensation as he attempts to go one better than last year, when he finished as runner-up to current World No. 1 Luke Humphries. And while Littler might as yet be unable to legally celebrate his victories with a few pints, there’ll be plenty of pours on offer at the largest beer hall in the UK, plus a group fancy dress competition and post-show DJs til late.
