London's oldest mosque was a twinkle in the eye of east London Muslims from as long ago as 1910, with a row of three houses on Commercial Road becoming its first incarnation, before this beautiful building opened in 1985. On Saturdays (3pm) free guided tours are available, with information on Muslim beliefs and rituals as well as a history of the building itself. There's also the option to view congregational prayers. All are welcome and no booking is required, just turn up at the London Muslim Centre entrance five minutes before the scheduled tour. Visitors should observe the mosque's dress code.
