Focusing on paintings from the 1980s, this exhibition reveals a lightness in both palette and style in old man de Kooning’s later years. The final decade of the Dutch-American abstract expressionist’s illustrious 60 year career was one of his most productive and bold, given that at 75 he decided to dramatically alter his own approach to painting. Although the paint may be a jolly sea-side pastel, his use of line and form is strong and calligraphic, creating works as refreshing as the swirls of Aquafresh they resemble.
