Encompassing two venues in Southwark Park, the purpose-built Cafe Gallery and the Grade II listed Dilston Grove, Southwark Park Galleries is an artist-led initiative founded in 1984 by the Bermondsey Artists' Group, with a remit to develop community relationships as a core part of its programme of group and solo exhibitions, workshops and talks. Artists who have shown at the venues include David Blandy, Suzanne Treister, Mat Collishaw, Richard Wilson and Pil and Galia Kollectiv. The location for more ambitious performance-based installations, Dilston Grove (formerly Clare College Mission Church) has hosted projects including Ackroyd & Harvey's seeding of its outside walls with grass and Michael Cross's 'Bridge', a series of steps which rose up and sunk down beneath the the water line of the flooded building, allowing viewers to feel as if they were walking on water.
