Lee Lozano was a difficult and extreme artist. She started out as a painter, but swiftly grew disillusioned with the art system, and began to make work that couldn't be bought or sold. One of her most controversial pieces was an 'action' she initiated in the early '70s, in which she stopped communicated with women in order to make a critique about male-dominated society. At a time when gender politics rage as fiercely as they ever have, a survey of Lozano's work feels timely and much-needed.
