Jackie Nickerson takes a look at how the daily agricultural work of the sub-Saharan people in Africa affects their surroundings, and at how those surroundings, in turn, shape the people’s culture and society.
Though sub-Saharan Africa and agriculture has featured in her photography before, TERRAIN has a broader subject matter and, instead of looking at individuals and how identity takes shape through improvisation, she now uses a more simplified artistic language to draw focus to social debates concerning crop specialisation, subsistence farming and food security.
