Harry Meadley: Level 1

The Basement is a new exhibition programme dedicated to showcasing the best emerging young artists and at the moment is host to the first in a proposed series of shows by Meadley which focuses around the idea of levels in traditional computer games. In this debut exhibition, the gallery has been transformed into the first room from the initial level of the 1992 computer game Woltenstein 3D – the original ‘first-person shooter’ game. Walls will be covered in digitally printed vinyl and visitors will be exposed to a host of puzzles, trophies and secrets. Each week a ‘mystery shopper’ will attend the show to grade their experience and give feedback, which will be recycled back into the exhibition – throwing open questions of artistic authorship, audience participation and production.
