The late German graphic designer was responsible for interpreting the films of Jean-Luc Godard, Ingmar Bergman, Jean Cocteau, Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini, Luis Buñuel and Akira Kurosawa into poster form. Hillman’s distinct diverse style, that incorporated illustration, collage and minimalism were captured in the 130 posters he designed between 1953 and 1974. To coincide with the first display of Hillman’s work in the UK, the Goethe-Institut and the Institut Français will screen selected films that Hillman designed posters for.
