To celebrate their 60th anniversary this summer, Habitat has partnered with the Design Museum to showcase their free exhibition, ‘Changing Spaces: 60 Years of Design with Habitat’. From July 10 to August 11 2024 (with one ‘Lates’ evening on July 18), the month-long installation will showcase a range of designs from 10 incredible British designers. While here, you’ll have the chance to experience five interactive zones: Create, Connect, Transform, Rest and Play – which also happen to form five wonderful reasons why you need to visit this unique exhibition. Keen to take a look? Let’s go.

“Celebrating the past, present and future, we have revisited and reimagined some of our most iconic products. The 60 Years of Design collection brings together a historic palette of primary colours, tactility and new materials to champion the next 60.” – Andrew Tanner, Head of Design

Create: Celebrate the joy of individualism and self-expression

The first of five interactive installations, Create, leans into the "anti-perfection movement" while relishing the opportunity to design living spaces that positively reflect our personalities. Here, you’re encouraged to express your creativity by making your mark on hand-crafted ceramic pieces designed by Silvia Kamodyová – further championing the timeless and pioneering spirit of Habitat’s design ethos.

Connect: Explore how great design has impacted our lives over the past 60 years

Since its inception in 1964, there’s no question Habitat has become a staple of British home design, and this installation zone showcases some of the brand’s most iconic products – as well as the societal and cultural changes of interior design that have evolved in Britain. Walking through the Connect installation, you’ll experience Habitat’s past, present and future represented through digital animations "inspired by cultural, societal and style influences from the past six decades."

Transform: Discover how lighting choices and design help us illuminate our homes

The Transform zone explores the influence lighting has on our homes and how positively illuminating our spaces – along with the colours, patterns and textures we choose – can positively impact our lives. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the visually striking display that features original lighting from Habitat’s 60th Collection, curated to "reflect the hours in the day and [ultimately] the passage of time."

Rest: Learn how to relax and recuperate with slow living

In our increasingly demanding world, the need for our homes to provide a peaceful sanctuary to retreat to is higher than ever. The Rest zone at Changing Spaces echoes this notion, inviting visitors to switch off in a "soft, calm and textural cocoon" designed from Habitat’s soft furnishings and textiles. Searching for soft life? This installation will show you the way.

Play: Manifest joy through playful design at home

Escape the everyday, let your guard down, and allow your imagination to run wild at Play, Habitat's fifth and final installation of its Changing Spaces: 60 Years of Design installation. This interactive zone demonstrates how we can introduce joy into our homes through furniture, colour, pattern, and, of course, playful design. Havens of Happiness features furniture from Habitat’s 60th collection, including the Levi Rug by Margo Selby, Lucinda benches that cast different shadows throughout the day and a giant swing that’s an Insta moment waiting to happen.
