Cynthia Daignault - Picture Lake

Described as a “poet of a painter” by The New Yorker, Brooklyn-based Cynthia Daignault usually riffs on art’s greatest hits: Andy Warhol’s banana, Van Gogh’s swirly trees, Jeff Koon’s balloon dogs. Here, however, she was inspired by novelist Don Delillo's quest for 'the most photographed barn in America'. It doesn't sound like the most riveting reason to trek around the entire circumfrence of the US, but it resulted in an epic 360 paintings. Her main focus is a single lake in the Pacific Northwest: chosen because of its perfect composition - like a desktop background. Expect walls heavy with canvases: Daignault is hard to define and doesn’t do things by halves.
