Curator and art historian Aindrea Emelife is behind this exhibiton which brings together the work of 18 Black women and non-binary artists to explore how Black women have been perceived in visual culture thrughout history. From the Hottentot Venus and the Sable Venus, to the Jezebel, the show will look at these three lasting depections of Black women and how they’ve shifted and changed in visual culture to the complex lived experience that informs the work of cross-generational women and non-binary artists today.
