Benjamin McMahon: Not Myself

"Less Kardashian, more Kahlo," is how Benjamin McMahon describes his intended mode of portrait photography. Throughout his career, McMahon has taken the photos of celebs including Judy Dench, Richard E Grant, Gillian Anderson, Alan Rickman, Gilbert & George, Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan. Frequently, he was constrained to taking a sitter's photograph in a five to ten minute slot. In an attempt to get a more truthful pic, McMahon started asking the people he met to pose their own self-portrait. The results of that experiment are now on display as part of this exhibition at Elephant West.
