Smith’s intricate new paintings consider the shifting boundaries of desire, sexuality and identity. Made over the last three years, the 21 canvases merge the traditions of still life, landscape and portrait painting with a conceptual aesthetic to create beguiling and otherworldly representations of androgynous characters flanked by wild animals.
