The name means “town market”. It used to simply be the Cascais market, where buyers and sellers met since 1952, before turning into a centre for restaurants, bars and outdoor cafes, theme markets and shopping. On Wednesday mornings, next to the produce market - known as “Mercado Saloio”, with fruit, vegetables, flowers, cheese and more - there is also a vintage- style market, selling anything from bed sheets to baking trays, from shoes to denim trousers. The “Mercado Saloio” also takes place on Saturday mornings.
