This biological wine cellar has more than 80 labels, almost all Portuguese - there are reds and rosés, white and green, sparkling wines and liqueurs, gins and ports. But Biomercado does not live on wine alone. It lives on vegetables and fruit, meat (without hormones and traditional pasture), fish (from artisanal fishing), cosmetics and hygiene products, detergents and cereals, teas and spices. And it lives from a cafeteria that serves meals (there are vegetarian burgers, chicken legs and a good variety of quiches), drinks throughout the day and brunches at the weekend. The ex-libris here is the take-away roast chicken. "It costs €15.99/kilo, but half of our chicken is equivalent to a whole conventional breeding one," says space manager Miguel Monteiro. "Organic chickens grow for 90 days in the open air, are fed with bio rations and non-transgenic soy." The store has free parking, right next to the main entrance.
