It used to be known as Green Apple (the new name means the same, but in Portuguese) and it served hamburgers – “more of a snack-bar”, says Zé Carlos, proprietor since those days. When the Expo-98 came along, the name was translated and the food transformed. Portuguese traditional food became the focus, and the snack-bar turned into a spacious "tasca" with plenty of light and apple decals decorating the aluminium counter. Originally from Tábua, in central Portugal, Zé Carlos and Ms. Laura (handling the kitchen for 14 years) brought with them "chanfana", a rich goat stew, served from Monday to Wednesday week in, week out.
