Batareo has a double meaning. Literally, means a small balcony with outdoor seating such as the one you will find at this restaurant if you climb their five steps. Symbolically, it means altar. At least to us. By the entrance, you will see a sanctuary disguised as a fish display. Take your pick, have it weighed and wait for the miracle to be brought to you on a plate, directly from the grill. As a starter, try the squid or the hake roe (both cost around 35€ to 40€/kg). They sometimes serve tuna belly, so you may be in luck. Definitely do not avoid dessert – ask for their orange torte. The house wine is from Palmela, on the other side of the mountain, and they serve it chilled and by the litre. Mind those five steps on your way out.
