The mascot on the door is not a lizard (“lagarto”) but a parrot, who whistles and yaps at passersby. Inside, Adega is large and roomy, and mostly unchanged since 1939. The long aluminium counter always has some punter drinking a beer, no matter what time it is. By lunchtime, tables fill quickly for fresh fish (served daily except on Mondays, when there are thick slices of grilled cod). In summertime, snail platters are constantly being served.
