Museu Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro

Portuguese architect and artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905) had his own ceramics factory in Caldas da Rainha, where he produced fantastic designs. Examples include a pig's head on a platter, lobsters in baskets and frogs sat on plates or climbing vases and poles. He was a prolific caricaturist, using his everyman character Zé Povinho to puncture the pomposity of public figures.
