Convenience is the main selling point here, midway between Príncipe Real and Rato, but this religiously austere 18th-century pensão – now officially a threestar hotel – is also as good as it gets for the price. Rooms are large – some even larger after a recent renovation – and reasonably comfortable, with decent bathrooms. The place is ideal if you want somewhere calm and family-oriented: in a superior double (from €20 more than a standard double) up to two under-13s can stay for free, and two of the rooms have connecting doors. There’s even a special room rate for accompanying grandparents.
By contrast, if you plan to stagger in at 4am after a bar crawl, then you should head elsewhere. (The friendly but no-nonsense receptionists are there to make sure guests behave.) A basic breakfast is served and there’s free Wi-Fi in the rooms.
