The Monstra animation festival, taking place from 20 to 30 March, celebrates a quarter of a century this year and invites Austria to showcase its talent in animated cinema, particularly in the experimental and abstract fields. Monstra is also about exhibitions, and this year’s highlight is COLA – Coletivo Audiovisual, which, on its 10th anniversary, brings to the Portuguese Cinematheque a collection of materials from its projects, film frames, and behind-the-scenes videos from productions such as the feature film O Natal do Bruno Aleixo and the short film Ice Merchants, nominated for an Oscar in 2023. Another major highlight of the programme is the exhibition Laika: Frame x Frame, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at five films created by the American studio.
