Yorkshire is famous for its abundance of excellent curry houses, and Leeds has one of the best in award-winning Prashad. It’s a family-run vegetarian restaurant that specialises in Gujarati and South Indian food, and it’s garnered a loyal fan base since it opened in its original location in Bradford. Nowadays, it can be found in the outer suburb of Drighlington.
Popular with vegetarians and carnivores alike, its menu is jam-packed with authentic dishes that have been created using techniques passed down from generation to generation. The simple ingredients are made to shine with well applied spicing and a depth of flavours and heat. There’s a good choice of hot and cold starters, including street snacks such as special chaat and dahi puri. A tasting platter is also available for those who find it hard to settle for just one dish, and at £10.95 it’s a great sharing option.
The dosa (fermented lentil and rice flour crêpe with spiced dry potato and onion curry) is a speciality here (£9.95), and the chef’s thali (£15.99) is a good choice if you want to get a well-rounded taste of Gujarati cuisine.
