When it comes to eating out in Leeds, the city centre undeniably has its charms. However, there's plenty to be said for making a trek out to the 'burbs, too.
In the first in what we aim to be a series, we've highlight some of the most interesting places to grab a bite to eat within a Leeds suburb.
First up, we take a look at what Yeadon and Otley have to offer:
Murgatroyds
Landlocked Leeds may not be a place you immediately think of when you think fish and chips. The massive Murgatroyds defies expectations, offering epic portion sizes, fresh fish and seafood, crunchy batter, and delicious chips.
This is a great place to grab one of Britain's favourite dishes. Just one word of warning: make sure you bring your appetite.

The Cheerful Chilli
Located in the Chevin Forest Park and in a perfect setting for hikers to grab some grub, The Cheerful Chilli offers wonderful vegetarian food that will satisfy even the beefiest of meat fans.
The freshly prepared dishes represent fantastic value for money and the rustic interior makes for a really family-friendly lunch location.
On a warm summer's day, there is also outside seating, so you can enjoy a veggie lasagna or a falafal wrap in the Leeds sunshine.

Weegmanns
Not a restaurant but an award-winning, independent butcher located in the bustling heart of Otley. If you're hungry, though, this is the place to go if you love a pork pie.
Offering arguably the finest pork pies in Otley (although there's a fair amount of outstanding competition prepared to contest this), you may not be able to sit down here, but for a meaty snack to enjoy on the go, it's definitely one to recommend.
Nam Jai Thai
Once you leave the suburbs of Headingley and student-ville, you'd be forgiven for thinking that cheap eats are no longer on the table. Nam Jai Thai in Otley proves that this really isn't the case.
With a huge range of authentic Thai dishes, including a decent range of vegetarian options and traditional Thai curries, this no-frills restaurant is somewhere to sit down and dream of the Far East – or call up for a Friday night takeaway treat.

Yum! At The Bay Tree
Tucked away in a tiny courtyard, you could have walked through Otley a hundred times and not know that the Bay Tree cafe even exists. Now that we’ve pointed it out to you, you can head down and sample some of their fantastic home cooked food.
You’ll find some of the tastiest sweet treats the suburbs of Leeds have to offer, with a slice of cake here more than filling enough for a breakfast or a naughty lunch. The sandwiches are also top-notch and provide the perfect accompaniment to a good old cup of tea.
